Phil started working with Kevin Gurr in the early 90’s after completing Open circuit Trimix training with him in 1993.

From this background Phil continued to teach IANTD programs for Phoenix Diver training, becoming training manager and then moving on to work for Phoenix Oceaneering as a project diver with Gurr.

Phil was the primary test and development diver for the VR3 dive computer, the Ouroboros CCR and the Sentinel CCR and as a sub contractor worked as a test and development diver with Delta P, Closed Circuit Research and VR Technology Ltd.

In early 2011 Phil took on the role of Rebreather technical support for VR Technology and authored the content of the VR Technology Rebreather support web site. Phil conducts specialist rebreather training for VR Technology Ltd clients such as the US National Parks Service, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and the National Museum of China archaeological department.

Phil continues to work with VR Technology Ltd. as a test and development diver (Currently on the Hollis Explorer Sport rebreather project.) and Technical support consultant.
